Ferry Corsten

ZAC: Ferry Corsten, why don’t you tell us a little bit about your new album:

FC:  I’m really excited about it. It’s called Twice In A Blue Moon. It will come out in the beginning of the year and I can say that this is one of my personal favourites to date I guess. It’s a combination of a more Trancy sound with still a bit of a groove here and there and yeh, I’m really excited. You know, I produced this album during the pregnancy of my wife and my little girl, so it has a bit of a warmer side to it, it’s a lot more melodic and sort of a sweet touch.

ZAC: I actually caught a glimpse of Radio Crash . It’s an awesome sounding track man.

FC: Radio Crash was pretty much the last track on the album that I produced and also the one with the biggest party feel…and it just came about really quickly. Initially, we didn’t want to go with the track as the first single but then it was high in the summer here, In Ibiza and I just sort of tested it out. All the DJs are like ‘Hey what is this track’?.....and so (laughs) the rest is history.

ZAC: Is it true that LEF (I Love You) was actually dedicated to your wife?

FC: Kinda yeah. It’s also her saying it (laughs). Yeah that was the underlying meaning of it.

MIXXY: Ferry, you play at some of the biggest parties in the world, with hundreds of thousands of people. What’s that kind of experience like? What brought you to that? What made you want to do that?

FC: One thing lead to another. I started out as a producer, producing your own tracks, which is great and I had this breakthrough with my tracks in the UK and before I knew it all the big profs were banging on my door and saying ‘Wanna come and play here’ and I only had only DJ’d a little bit, playing my own tracks was actually a really big buzz and ever since I thought it was important to play out as a way to sort of promote my own music as rock band would do when they go on tour. Producing my own music rather than working with an engineer sort of gives me that sort of rewarding feeling, you know you made that and these people are sort of going nuts about it. It is the most amazing feeling.

MIXXY: What’s it been like working in previous projects with people like Tiesto, Vincent De Moore and people like that. You guys are responsible for the anthems of our generation. What’s it feel like being responsible for that?

FC: At the time, and not that I don’t enjoy dance music today….but it was really for the fun and the music and we were hanging out at all the same record stores and stuff like that. It was something that just happened….this music we call Trance music and you know, the big wave sort of took off around 1999…That was at a time we were all hanging out. It was a really little scene in Holland and people were just sort of teaming up and working together and we were all very unaware of the scene we made back then, we are still the big ones today. Back then it was all shear fun.

ZAC: I hear you have been nominated for best European DJ in Ibiza, nominated as Best Trance DJ. It’s like all the hard work has paid off mate

FC: Yeah you know, how can I say this in a sort of political way (laughs). I’m not doing it for the awards, I’m just doing it for the love, for what I love doing, although I have to say thankyou for whoever voted for the awards
